LUMA SELAKAN DIVE LODGE

Overview

Luma' Selakan Dive Lodge is a small-scale hospitality project envisioned as a natural extension of the wider community initiatives on Pulau Selakan.

Designed to accommodate up to 30 guests, the lodge offers a quieter alternative to conventional island resorts, focusing on authentic experiences rather than luxury. Visitors are invited to experience the rhythms of island life, engage with the local community and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Tun Sakaran Marine Park.

Design Approach

The design prioritises simplicity, practicality and sensitivity to place. Construction methods and material selections were carefully considered to ensure the project could be built using readily available resources, remain economical to maintain and minimise environmental impact.

The arrangement of the chalets responds to key views, prevailing breezes and the surrounding landscape, allowing guests to experience the island through its changing light, sea conditions and daily village life.

The architecture is intentionally modest. Instead of competing with its surroundings, the buildings serve as a framework through which guests can appreciate the natural environment and cultural richness of Pulau Selakan.

Community & Place

The project was developed with the local community at its centre. Meals are prepared by village residents, day-to-day operations involve local workers, and the development seeks to create economic opportunities that directly benefit the people of Selakan.

Rather than introducing an entirely new tourism model, the lodge aims to build upon the existing strengths of the island while preserving its identity and character.
